Hello Hello and welcome back art lovers! AS you may now be familiar with, I’ve covered some amazing artistic ventures in Vancouver, like the Granville Island Brewing’s 40 for 40, which offered a deep dive into contemporary art, and the Unearthed: Persian Artists Gathering, celebrating rich Iranian cultural memories and artistic expressions through its Adobe architecture.
Today get ready to be dazzled (quite literally!).
The Beaumont Studios
Known for its eclectic and vibrant ambiance, it’s renowned for its ability to foster an inclusive environment where artists of all levels can come together to create and inspire one another. The studio’s commitment to community and creativity makes it the perfect setting for such a unique and engaging event hosted by:
GlowIN Vancouver
Narnia
Fellow Jaysuits, let me guide you into a whimsical Mushroom Wonderland with neon mushrooms glowing under UV lights. It’s an artist’s dream come true! This transformation is reminiscent of the innovative setting at the CAG for the earlier Granville Island Brewing’s 40 for 40 event, where art and community came together in a lively celebration.
The studio was equipped with all the necessary supplies as well as complimentary food and beverages to make the evening a success. Each participant received neon paints, markers, and an A3 drawing board. The UV lights were strategically placed to ensure that the colors glowed brilliantly, creating a mesmerizing visual effect. The model’s poses were both dynamic and graceful, providing a variety of angles and perspectives to challenge our skills.

A premier creative hub in Vancouver. The studio offers a diverse range of artistic experiences:

One-on-One Sessions: Personalized art instruction tailored to individual needs and skill levels.
Corporate Events: Team-building activities that foster creativity and collaboration.
Senior House Programs: Engaging art activities designed for senior citizens to explore their creativity.
After/Home School Programs: Art education programs for children, nurturing their artistic development.
Art Retreats: Immersive experiences that combine relaxation with artistic exploration.
Birthday Parties: Fun and creative celebrations with customized art projects.
Glow Paint Nite and Glow Life Drawing: Unique events featuring neon paints and UV lighting for a vibrant art experience.
Neon Art Adventures: The Drawing Session
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the drawing session with a model adorned in UV-reactive neon body paint and fluorescent accessories, posing elegantly under the blacklight. The atmosphere was mesmerizing, with colors popping vividly against the dark backdrop. The curator expertly guided us through the session, providing tips and encouraging everyone to create at their own pace.

This approach to teaching in this unconventional setting was both inspiring and liberating. Embracing this unique environment helped even the most hesitant participants to let go and explore their artistic potential.
Rhythms and Hues: The Musical Experience
As we sketched, the soothing sounds of a live hang drum filled the studio, creating a serene and inspiring environment. The combination of visual and auditory stimulation was truly enchanting. The musician’s skillful playing added an extra layer of magic to the evening, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

The curator elaborated on how they believe live music enhances the creative process in such events:
“Live music enhances the creative process in neon life drawing events by creating an engaging and immersive atmosphere, helping participants relax and connect with their creativity. The rhythmic flow of live music influences the pace and style of an artist’s work, while the emotional power of music stimulates imagination and expression.“
The audience had plenty to say about the music as well. One participant mentioned how the rhythm of the hang drum helped them find a natural flow in their drawing. Another described the entire experience as a “creative retreat.” The harmonious blend of music and art created an atmosphere of relaxation and focus, transforming the act of drawing into a meditative experience.
Reflections on the Session
Body Positivity and Artistic Freedom
The event emphasized body positivity, creating an inclusive atmosphere where everyone could explore their creativity without judgment. This emphasis on body positivity is crucial, as it challenges societal beauty standards and promotes self-acceptance.

By inviting models of different shapes, sizes, and backgrounds, participants were exposed to a wide range of human forms, encouraging inclusivity and diversity.
Curator’s Thoughts:
- On Body Positivity: “Promoting body positivity through art is crucial as it celebrates diverse body types and fosters self-acceptance.”
Participants felt more comfortable and confident in their artistic abilities, with the supportive environment encouraging them to take creative risks. This theme of inclusivity and self-expression was also central to in creating a vibrant space for creativity. We were encouraged to embrace our unique perspectives and celebrate individuality & fostering a sense of community and mutual respect.
Embracing Unconventional Techniques
One of the most exciting aspects of the session was the opportunity to experiment with unconventional techniques. The neon paints and markers reacted uniquely to the UV light, allowing us to play with light and shadow in ways that aren’t possible with traditional materials. This encouraged a sense of playfulness and creativity, pushing us to explore new artistic horizons.

What stood out the most about this event was the sense of freedom it offered. Unlike traditional life drawing sessions, where there might be a focus on precision and technique, this neon life drawing event was all about experimentation. Participants were encouraged to break free from conventional methods and explore their creativity in new and exciting ways.

Some artists chose to focus on abstract forms, using the neon paints to create vibrant, expressive pieces. Others experimented with layering colors and creating depth through light and shadow. The UV light added an extra layer of complexity, challenging us to think about how the colors would interact and change under the blacklight.
A Meditative Experience
For many, the combination of drawing and live music turned the session into a meditative practice. The gentle, repetitive sounds of the hang drum encouraged a state of flow, where the mind could focus entirely on the act of creation. This meditative aspect was particularly appreciated by those who came to the event seeking not just an artistic outlet, but a way to unwind and de-stress.
One participant noted,
“The music made it so easy to lose myself in the drawing. It was like the sounds were guiding my hand, and I didn’t have to think about what I was doing—everything just flowed naturally.”
Community and Connection
The environment also played a role in fostering a sense of community. The shared experience of creating art to the same rhythm helped to create a bond and a sense of collective creativity, a feeling that we were all part of something larger than ourselves.
The curator shared their hopes for what participants gain from these communal art experiences:
“I hope whoever comes gains a sense of connection, inspiration, and self-discovery from this experience. By engaging in a shared creative process, hopefully they can build a supportive community, appreciate diverse perspectives, and feel empowered to express themselves authentically.”
I also spoke with participants about how the communal aspect of the event influenced their experience. Many highlighted the joy of connecting with fellow participants and the inspiration they drew from seeing each other’s work.
This collaborative atmosphere was a testament to the power of community in the creative process. Sharing ideas and techniques with each other not only fostered camaraderie but also sparked new inspirations and perspectives, enriching the overall experience.
Art and Conversations
Personal Growth and Discovery
This was an extraordinary experience! It was a creative night of vibrant colors and enchanting music. A beautiful celebration of art, music, and the power of creativity to connect us all.
For many of us, the event was a journey of personal growth and discovery. The unconventional setting, combined with the hands-free approach and the supportive curators, provided the perfect environment to push our creative boundaries. We left the studio not just with our finished artworks but with a renewed sense of inspiration and a deeper appreciation for the power of art to connect and transform.
As I left, I felt inspired and grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a magical experience. Rather than just visual spectacles; they were intellectual explorations that encouraged reflection and deeper understanding. If you have the opportunity to attend, I highly recommend diving into the captivating realms these talented artists have crafted.
